My Situation Update
So, I promised to update people on what is happening, though I'm not sure I'll have another update worth discussing after this.
First off, my family and I were happy where we were, but it was in a trailer park. So there was always the concern that the park would be able to start price-gouging us or kick us out. Therefore, the idea of moving to Florida and having a chance at some form of promised home with land was appealing. Also, our likely autistic son is a lot to handle at times and we were hoping family could offer us more time away from him.
My girlfriend's family offered us land here and said they would handle moving a trailer we at least helped purchase onto it. It's safe to say this was a lie: they catfished us.
Not only did I waste nearly 10k moving to this state, but I have been gaslit, outright lied to, and taken advantage of at every opportunity by the stepfather behind most of it.
I thought these people would value my family's presence here, but that isn't the case. They renovated a home for us to stay in temporarily. That's all well and good, but they eventually started implying the "debt" for said renovation is our responsibility with the bullshit claim that "They can't sell it for more because investors won't care."
That's bad enough on the face of things, but it does get worse, which goes into the danger I felt my son would be in.
Amongst all the gaslighting, lies, and pull yourself up by your bootstraps dialogue, my girlfriend's boomer Stepfather started saying he expected "favors" for his help.
In front of his wife, I offered later to help by working part-time, but he refused.
The next day or so, I was in a weird conversation with him alone. He described how his Mob Boss mother allowed men to rape him as a child, along with the large amounts of incest he engaged in. Terrible right? The issue is that he enjoyed it. He then went into detail about how he liked his gay sex, and was visibly disappointed when I just offered him sympathy. Safe to say, I feel he wanted something more.
Later, we spoke to his wife/my girlfriend's mother about it; this was a mistake. She started losing her mind, threatening violence against me, and we knew full well her husband might throw us out if she was manic enough to tell him.
It seemed like she would keep her mouth shut about it, so I called off the S.O.S., but eventually, she did anyway; I'm lucky an eviction wasn't the result.
So, I'm still trying to get out of the situation. I may be pushed into buying a home that will require work back in Illinois soon, but it's technically a better situation than the mess I'm in.
